Jowls & Neck Laxity
Changes along the jawline and neck are among some of the most common concerns patients bring to Severn River Medspa. You may notice your jaw looking less defined, soft tissue gathering at your lower face, or your neck appearing looser than it once did. These changes are gradual, and they often feel significant before they are visible to anyone else.
We offer non-surgical and surgical options to address jowls and neck laxity, with a team that includes board-certified facial plastic surgeons, physician assistants and medical aestheticians.

What Causes Jowls and Neck Laxity?
As collagen and elastin decline with age, skin loses the firmness that once kept it close to the jaw and neck. Volume loss in the midface causes tissue to descend toward the lower face, and the platysma muscle can weaken and pull downward over time, contributing to neck banding and a less defined jawline. Genetics, sun exposure and weight fluctuations can all play a role.
What Treatments Can Address Jowls and Neck Laxity?
Because these changes can involve the skin, underlying muscle and facial volume, treatment options vary depending on what is driving the concern. Our team evaluates each patient individually before recommending an approach.
Your Treatment Options
Volume loss along the jaw and chin can allow soft tissue to shift downward, creating the appearance of jowling. Dermal fillers can restore definition along the jawline and improve the chin's ability to anchor facial tissue, often resulting in a lifting effect on the lower face.
Botox & Jeuveau (Nefertiti Neck Lift)
The Nefertiti Neck Lift is an injectable treatment, not a surgery. By placing Botox or Jeuveau along the lower jaw and into the bands of the platysma muscle, we can reduce the downward pull that contributes to neck laxity and a less defined jawline. Results are subtle and typically last several months.
Letybo®
Letybo® is a neurotoxin that works through the same mechanism as Botox and Jeuveau. For patients who want to address platysma banding and neck laxity with an injectable approach, it is another option we can discuss during your consultation.
For patients with mild to moderate skin laxity along the jaw and neck, Viora Reaction uses radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen remodeling deep within the skin. The neck is one of the primary treatment areas for this device, and it can be used as a standalone treatment or to maintain results following a more invasive procedure.
Cosmetic Surgical Procedures (Neck Lift)
A neck lift tightens the underlying platysma muscle, removes excess skin and recontours the jaw and neck for a more defined appearance. For patients with significant laxity, it can produce results that non-surgical treatments cannot replicate. Our surgeons include Dr. Lee Kleiman, who has over two decades of facial plastic surgery experience, and Dr. Brandon Wachal, whose fellowship training focused specifically on the face and neck.
