Uneven Skin Tone

Skin tone rarely changes all at once. For most patients, it shifts in ways that are easy to dismiss at first: a sun spot here, scarring from an old breakout, an overall dullness that shows up in photos. At Severn River Medspa, we assess each patient's skin individually and recommend a treatment path based on the specific cause.

Why Skin Tone Changes Over Time

Uneven skin tone develops for several reasons, and identifying the cause is the first step toward treating it effectively.

  • Sun Exposure: Over time, UV damage causes melanin to distribute unevenly, producing spots, patches and areas of persistent discoloration.
  • Hormonal Changes: Fluctuations during pregnancy or other hormonal shifts can trigger melasma, a form of hyperpigmentation that tends to appear across the cheeks and forehead.
  • Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation: Acne, skin injury or inflammation can leave behind darkened areas even after the skin has healed.

Because these mechanisms differ, the most effective treatment depends on identifying which one is at work for you.

How We Treat Uneven Skin Tone

SkinPen Microneedling

Our Tetra CO2 and PicoFocus laser systems target pigmentation at different depths of the skin. PicoFocus is particularly effective for sun spots, age spots and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, using ultra-short pulses to break up pigment without significant downtime. Tetra CO2 works at a deeper level, addressing tone irregularities as well as texture and resurfacing concerns.

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel removes the outermost layers of skin to reduce the appearance of discoloration and improve tone consistency. We customize the peel depth based on your skin type and the degree of pigmentation.

Microdermabrasion

Laser skin resurfacing targets sun damage and surface skin thickening that can enlarge pores. Dr. Hannah Kleiman has a particular focus on laser resurfacing and skincare, and she works with patients to develop treatment plans that fit their skin and their goals.

Dermaplaning

By removing surface buildup and vellus hair, dermaplaning improves how light reflects off the skin. Used alongside other treatments, it helps topical ingredients reach the skin more efficiently.

VAMP

VAMP uses purified polynucleotides derived from salmon DNA to support cellular repair and renewal. Patients often choose it when tone irregularities are connected to broader concerns about skin quality and aging.

Medical-Grade Skincare

Medical-grade skincare is part of any effective pore treatment plan. The products you use at home between appointments influence how well your results hold. We can recommend SkinCeuticals and iS Clinical products that complement your in-office treatments and help maintain your results at home.

Facial & Spa Services

Our facial and spa services provide brightening and hydration support and work well alongside clinical treatments or as a starting point for patients newer to medical aesthetics.
